Item Description

A beautiful, 5.7 cm, terminated, gemmy to translucent, bi-colored tourmaline is aesthetically set in a bed of lustrous brown cookeite crystals accented with sections of smaller tourmalines. The glassy termination is very dark purple and is followed by areas of gemmy indicolite-blue and grass-green. The body of the well-striated crystal is teal-blue. Cookeite, an uncommon Chlorite Group species, is seldom seen in attractive tourmaline combinations from Minas Gerais. An OLD-TIME Brazil pegmatite specimen from the Kay Roberston Collection # 2850 and acquired in April, 1963. This fine combination is undoubtedly from the famous Cruzeiro Mine. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record).
