Biehlite (Type Locality)

Item Description

Bright snow-white tufts of the rare antimony molybdate Biehlite from the type and only locality for the species, the great Tsumeb Mine! This exquisite thumbnail is composed of numerous, delicate, hair-like, highly acicular crystals to 1.5 cm in length intergrown into several elongate tufts. The white acicular crystals are in slender bundles that diverge at the ends along with curving bunches of hair-like crystals and they are all somewhat intergrown in the center and more divergent and distinct at their ends. This is only the second, and probably the best, Biehlite we have handled from the Pohl collection. It is actually very very good for what it is, and it would be hard to get a better example in any size. Such specimen, the few we have seen for sale ever, go for $2500-5000 on the retail market.
