Item Description

This ancient, well-known lead-zinc district, known since Roman times, is famous for outstanding bournonite and barite specimens. Bindheimite is a secondary mineral occurring in the oxidized zones of antimony-bearing lead deposits, a frequent oxidation product of Pb-Sb-sulphosalts (bournonite). It is VERY RARE from any locality in the Les Malines District. This is an EXTREMELY RARE pseudomorph of earthy yellow bindheimite with on oxide crust replacing two, large, aesthetically intergrown classic cogwheel bournonite crystals from the La Sanguinede mine. An exceptional and rare 360-degree pseudo from the Kay Robertson Collection # 9812 and acquired from John Metteer in January, 1983. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). A RARE MUST for the pseudomorph, species or locality collector.
