Item Description

One of the signature minerals from Utah is Bixbyite. It was named after Maynard Bixby, a miner, mineral dealer and author who was one of the prominent figures in the early days of Utah mineralogy, and the discoverer of the species that bears his name. This species is at its best when it comes from Utah as these specimens feature classic large, black crystals that show beautiful modified/complex crystallization. This piece is a very sharp, highly lustrous, jet black colored cubic crystal of bixbyite with classic trapzeohedral modifications on the corners with just a tiny bit of atttached sherry colored Topaz and on rhyolite matrix. The bixbyite is complete on all sides and despite a few tiny "Wilbers", there is no real damage of note. An absolutely fantastic thumbnail of this highly desirable and gorgeous material. Priced in our inventory at $3,000.
