Item Description

A cute and sculptural thumbnail of pretty light lavender, translucent amethyst botryoids with frosted surfaces from recent finds in Indonesia. These have caused a major stir at recent shows and are certainly beautiful and artistically fine specimens. Nearly a floater, with only one small out-of-sight attachment on a bottom ball. Botryoidal amethyst is quite rare worldwide. Analysis by Dr. George Rossman at Caltech concluded these should be labeled as amethyst, and not chalcedony or agate. An adorable thumbnail example. See the fine article in 2018 The Mineralogical Record issue, Vol. 49, No. 6, pp. 827-836. many on the market, but this is a particularly cute thumbnail example!
