Item Description

A sculptural, highly unusual 360-degree globular specimen of bubbly mimetite botryoids with strange colors from this less well-known mine. Most of the matte to waxy luster botryoids are a strange pastel yellow-green with scattered overgrowths of sparkly mustard-yellow mimetite. Bruising reveals that the botyroids have red cores. The bottom really reveals sparkly mustard-yellow botryoids and red cores. VERY RARE in this style. Most such specimens we have seen from here are orange and resemble those from San Pedro Corralitos. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 3241 and acquired from California dealer Burt Jirgl in the mid-1960s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). I read that these only came out once in the 1950s. Heavy and rich lead ore at 341 grams mass.
