Item Description

The famous old Message Mine in the Rhone Alps of France dates back to 1820, but it is still active as the owner (Gregoire De Bodinat) mines there every year. When someone mentions the Isere district, I immediately think of what are among the finest crystals of Siderite ever found. Large rhombs of a gorgeous greenish hue measuring up to 10+ cm have been found associated with gorgeous gem prismatic Quartz crystals, but the forgotten species from this area is Bournonite. Some choice Bournonite specimens have come out of the Mesage Mine in recent years, and this particular miniature is no exception. The piece features several fine, sharp, well-formed, tabular, dark steel-grey colored crystals measuring up to 1.5 cm associated with minor brown Siderite and white / colorless Quartz. If you look closely, you can see the beautiful well-defined crystal faces of each Bournonite "blade". There is no real damage to speak of on the display side, and the piece looks very attractive in person. If you collect sulfosalts, or French minerals, do not miss out on this beauty.
