Item Description

From a find over 10 years ago. These Brookite specimens are some of the finest quality "Alpine-type" Brookites in the world. This particular specimen features a pair of fine quality, sharp, lustrous, "flame"-red color Brookite crystals free of matrix. The center of the crystals exhibits a classic black "phantom" that is often seen in this material. A wonderful specimen of a species that is not often seen in good display pieces. No damage, save the bottom. From the worldwide collection of famed Italian mineral collector, field collector and author, Francesco Bedogne of Sondrio, Italy (Collection #1939). Bedogne wrote dozens of articles and several books about the mineralogy of Italian Alpine localities such as Val Bregaglia, Val Masino, Val Codera, Val Spluga, Valtellina and the famous Val Malenco. He was also the founder of the Valtellinese Mineralogical Institute.
