Item Description

A wonderful and rarely seen thumbnail-sized specimen of Calcite (originally labeled as Baryte) from the contemporary finds at the Linwood Mine in Iowa. The piece features a pair of very sharp, well-formed, rather lustrous, tabular elongated crystals, free of matrix. I can't find any damage on the terminations with the naked eye, and the only "damage" is on the base where the piece was removed from the pocket wall. A showy and fine quality specimen from this well-known contemporary locality.
From the collection of David E Ziga, a geologist who graduated from Miami (of Ohio) University in 2017, with a mineralogy background. Specimen #85.
