Item Description

Sweetwater Calcites are some of the great Midwestern classics. This mine (sometimes called the Milliken Mine on older labels) produced some truly eye-catching and unique specimens of Calcite with their distinctive form, color and associations. This small cabinet hosts a predominant, sharp, translucent, soft golden color prismatic scalenohedral Calcite with a smaller secondary crystal at the base associated with minor golden metallic Marcasite and a bit of matrix. The main Calcite is in great shape, though I can see a couple very tiny imperfections and there is a separation mark on the back where another Calcite once grew. Showy, aesthetic and now hard to find on the market, so if you're a Calcite fan or a beginning collector who wasn't around to get these when they were more readily available, don't miss out. The piece comes from a big Midwest collection that we acquired and is accompanied by labels from dealers Keith Williams and Dan Weinrich.
