Item Description

This is a really cool and rarely seen display specimen from the famous locality at Concepción del Oro in Zacatecas, Mexico featuring a crystallized vug of deep green Malachite coated by a thin layer of gemmy, vitreous Calcite. The matrix is composed of massive Cuprite due to the dark reddish color and overall weight of the piece. The wonderful glistening Calcite brings vibrancy and life to the underlain Malachite, and the piece is easily displayable as you can see from the photos. The reverse side of the specimen features an old hand-written label that mentions the name "Felps" from Oak Hill, Texas 1970, but I don't know if this is the name of the collector or possibly the dealer from whom it was acquired. For reference, "Oak Hill" may refer to a neighborhood in Austin, Texas (in Travis County), or possibly Bastrop County, Jasper County, Johnson County or Rusk County. There are many different habits, colors and styles of Calcite found at this locality, but this is one of the best examples of this particular style that I've ever had to offer from Concepción del Oro. Valued at $1,000 in the inventory.
