Item Description

This is a fantastic, showy, three-dimensional display specimen of the now classic Calcites from Tieshan Mine (Daye Mine). These impressive pieces are some of the most recognizable Calcites from any Chinese locality. This aesthetic cabinet sized piece features a predominant, sharp, lustrous, doubly-terminated, twinned scalenohedral of Calcite which is included with iron oxide to create a gorgeous rich red color on one side. The main Calcite is sitting elegantly atop a matrix of smaller Calcite crystals with the same red color. VERY minor edge-wear can be seen on the main Calcite, but it's in remarkably good condition all around. One of the more impressive showy examples of these now classic Calcites that we've had to offer in a while. These specimens are certainly dwindling on the market now, and if you collect Calcites or Chinese minerals, or if you just want to get your hands on a very good representation of these wonderful Calcites, don't miss out on this one. Priced in the inventory at $4,000. From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl, a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel. We at The Arkenstone have the privilege of offering the remainder of this great worldwide collection over the next two to three years through our various platforms.
