Item Description

A big, dramatic old Charcas Calcite specimen, with the characteristic hexagonal crystals that look like plates pressed together. The crystals are sharp, well-formed and lovely to view from every angle. The largest Calcite measures 4.1 cm across, which is good sized for the locality. The crystals on this showy display specimen have an amazing aesthetic arrangement, with wonderful three-dimensional appeal. The compressed prism faces of the Calcites actually have a glassy luster with a slightly smoky color. This is nearly a floater as I can only find a point of attachment on the bottom / back of the piece. I can see a few tiny dings, but overall, the piece is superb condition and rarely does one find a piece of this classic material with such great aesthetics. Valued at $1500. From the collection of Senator / Dr. Miguel Romero of Teuhuacan, Mexico (Collection #4076).
