Item Description

Gorgeous, complexly terminated gem calcites are one of the classics of old English minerals. These were generally found in the mid to late 1800s, and remain classics to this day, seldom beaten in style by calcite from any of the hundreds of locales found since. This specimen is sparkling and bright, with none of the "old, dirty" look that some have. It looks as if freshly mined and as if it were made of polished crystals - the brightest style you could ask for. The crystals run to an inch in size, and there are dozens, with only the most minor, generally peripheral, damage or wear. All major upright and large crystals, and all major crystals poking out to the sides, are in excellent condition on this well-trimmed, palm-sized specimen. It was formerly in the collection of Dr Ed David, science advisor to the Nixon White House, among his other roles and his passion for minerals. Hisclassics were generally of very high quality, and chosen carefully. I have seen similar specimens to this priced at anywhere from 2500-5000 pounds, dollars, or euros depending on the show location, and then generally with more damage and less luster. The piece is superb, and should be worth at least $3000-4000
