Item Description

A hard to find specimen of the relatively unknown Calcites from the Highway 197 roadcut in The Dalles, Oregon. I've seen this material labeled as "Pineapple Calcite" due to the layered and tapered appearance of the soft golden colored scalenohedral crystals. The largest crystal group measures 3.7 cm long, and for the most part, the specimen is in great shape overall. The specimen is very aesthetic and when it's backlit, the color really shines through. If you collect worldwide Calcites or minerals of the Pacific Northwest, don't miss out on this rare display specimen. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#8528). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
