Item Description

We had one other piece in the auctions in 2016, but I can honestly say that I've never seen another piece of this material before. A rarity for the area, even if it's a common species. This specimen comes from the collection of Willard W. Wulff (1904-1998) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a prominent figure and collector of Colorado minerals. Wulff was one of the founding members of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society in 1936. You can read Willard's bio on the Mineralogical Record website here ( http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1528 ). The piece comes with a typed label from Wulff on one of his famous 3x5 index cards stating that it was personally collected by Wulff himself. This specimen features sharp, gemmy, golden rhombic Calcites with a single white scalenohedron of Calcite on a thin slab of matrix. The largest golden rhomb measures 1.2 cm. The label says that the piece was collected in Foundatin Valley, which is just north of the site of Ft. Carson Army Base in Colorado Springs, though I'm sure when it was collected, it was just wilderness.
