Item Description

Dayglow orange fluorescence on this surreal cluster of intergrown calcite crystals from the famous mines at Charcas. The striking, zoned, lustrous and translucent trigonal gray crystals look like coral heads! The amazing hoppered large crystal with tiny "cave pearls" inside adds real pizzazz to this most unusual calcite from this locale. Many calcites from Charcas have classic hexagonal, poker chip form, not this weird trigonal form. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 1532 and acquired from Burminco in the early 1960. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). RARE form calcite from Charcas.
