Item Description

Calcite and fluorite on barite combinations of this fine quality are RARE from the historic mines of Derbyshire. The matrix on this aesthetic, two-sided piece is massive barite. Both sides are totally covered with small gray calcite scalenohedrons. The dramatic, pristine, 3.0 cm, sharply terminated scalenohedron with the smaller crystal are focal points of this fine specimen. The base of the barite nodule shows a partial band of purple fluorite (fluorescent) under the calcite on one side. The 1.8 cm, doubly terminated calcite does have a gently cleaved termination, which is certainly a very modest detraction to this excellent, very showy, old-time combination piece. Ex Sir Warington Smyth and Miller Calcite Collections.
