Item Description

A beautiful and showy example of these classic and distinctive Calcites from José María Patoni in Durango, Mexico. This small cabinet specimen features a few very gemmy, pale golden colored, to virtually colorless, ''butterfly''-twinned crystals with a gentle resinous luster on the surface measuring up to 3.0 cm across, associated with many scalenohedral un-twinned Calcites, on matrix. The piece is in fine condition, as I can't find any real damage on the front/display side of the specimen, it's only contacted around the periphery where it was separated from the pocket wall. I love how the largest twin sits proudly atop the specimen, giving the piece character and visual appeal. These are not commonly seen on the market anymore - this particular piece was mined in the late 1990s - and if you collect worldwide Calcites or twinned crystals, this is something that would make a fine addition to your collection. Valued $950.
