Calcite (gemmy smoky twin)

Calcite is found in thousands of world localities, but China has produced not only a great number of pieces in recent years, but some of the finest quality examples of the species extant. This piece is a sharp, well-formed, rather gemmy twinned crystal with an alluring silvery-smoky color that is best seen with backlighting. Honestly, the crystal is WATER CLEAR in areas, but it's hard to illustrate in the photos. I love the complex form with the subtle stepped faces and alternating zones of brilliant to matte luster. Very good condition, all around, with the only real damage being on the base where it was removed from the pocket wall. If you collect Calcites, this one is actually pretty cool and would make a nice addition to any Calcite suite or a collection of Chinese minerals.
