Item Description

An impressive and sculptural large septarian nodule from Utah. Calcite filled septarian nodules from Muddy Creek are a US classic and are outstanding decorator pieces. Septarian nodules are concretions containing angular cavities or cracks, which are called "septaria". The striking large shrinkage void in this dramatic large sawed and polished concretion is filled with straw-yellow dogtooth calcite crystals. Earlier generations of dark and light calcite line the vug and cracks, adding color and contrast. Yellow and brown fluorescence. 3008 grams or 6.6 pounds. Ex Lee Burnett Collection of Morrison, Colorado. A very fine large and uncommon example, as calcite usually fills the voids in most septarians from here.
