Item Description

A classic, old-time specimen of translucent, lustrous, grayish-white calcite scalenohedrons with unusual form and structure filling a bowl-like vug in hefty sulfide matrix from the less well-known Gnade Gottes Mine at St. Andreasberg, Germany. Few calcites from this region survive today with accurate mine attribution and of those I think Gnade Gottes Mine pieces are very rare. This fine specimen comes with an old large typewritten German label and certainly dates to the late 1800s or early 1900s.
