Item Description

The two sides on this striking old-time calcite on calcite specimen from the famous mines at Pribram couldn't be anymore different! One side of the two calcite scalenohedron "mountain peaks" are fully sheathed in glassy, translucent, light gray, stepped-growth, pseudohexagonal, calcite prisms. They certainly have the appearance of uneven columnar basalt! The other side is strikingly different, as the mountain slopes are festooned with fully discrete calcite scalenohedrons of different sizes and decidedly different orientations. Essentially pristine, except for trivial periphery wear at or near the base. The aesthetics of this amazingly different and historic, two-sided piece are outstanding. Very weird chemistry here. Ex Larry Krause Collection.
