Calcite on Calcite (unusual locality specimen)

Item Description

A striking and unusual cabinet display specimen featuring fine, soft golden colored, sharp, well-formed rhombs of Calcite measuring to 1.7 cm on matrix, but the interesting and rare aspect of the specimen is that there is a second generation of very gemmy, colorless, compressed, rhombic crystals of Calcite overgrowing the initial generation underneath. I honestly can't remember seeing a piece quite like this from the Fengjiashan Mine. The piece is in superb shape, with no major damage that I can find, save the periphery where the piece was removed from the pocket wall. If you're a Calcite collector or you collect Chinese minerals, this is a distinctive and certainly hard to find piece from this famed locality.
