Calcite on matrix

Item Description

Striking single Calcite crystal that is majestically set on matrix on this elegant cabinet specimen from Xianghualing. The flattened rhombohedral or nail-head crystal measures an impressive 8.2 cm wide by 7.9 cm tall and 3.9 cm thick. The translucent and lustrous Calcite crystal has a light pink coloration with fine striations on the faces. The Calcite included part of matrix as seen in the basal rhomb. There are some edge imperfections but they are forgivable given the large crystal size and 360 degree display. Excellent large Calcite specimen for the species that is elevated by its singularity, form and aesthetics. Strong orange LW fluorescence. Ex. Kurt Hefendehl Collection. Old material from the 1990s.
