Item Description

A very showy, rare and rich large two-sided crust from this well-known extinct mine. The stepped front is totally and attractively covered with glassy, frosted calcite scalenohedrons, to 2.6 cm (doubly terminated) and frosted, preferentially oxide-tinted quartz points to 3.0 cm. The back of the crust consists of sparkly microcrystalline magnetite with tiny quartz and calcite crystals. This old underground and open pit mine was intermittently active from 1890 until 1999 and recovered gold, native bismuth, magnetite, bismuthinite, and chalcopyrite. Enlightened mine management permitted specimen recovery from 1966 until 1999 (MINDAT). Choice and rare large two-sided combination material from the locale. Bright pink calcite fluorescence.
