Item Description

Sculptural and surprising large 2-way combination material from this well-known extinct mine in a famous and historic German lead-fluorite mining district. Intergrown coral-like clusters of creamy calcite rhombs cascade down the middle of the mounded piece. Scintillating tiny hematite-included quartz points nearly totally cover the underlying matrix of glassy green stepped-growth fluorite cubes. Very showy and unusual large combination material from this mine. Specimens from here are seldom on the market. Purple fluorite and modest pink calcite fluorescence Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 3124 and probably acquired in the 1960s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017).
