Item Description

Although Calcite is a fairly common mineral, it's not terribly well represented in the gem world. This stone comes to us from Pakistan, and is one of the more unique examples of Calcite that I've seen from any world locality. The rarity is two-fold in this stone as it has a seldom seen green color, but it also exhibits a beautiful "cat's eye" effect when rotated in the light. One of the most unusual occurrences in Calcite gems is the "cat's eye" effect. This is seen in gems such as Tourmaline, Sillimanite and Chrysoberyl, but you don't see many of Calcites of any variety that display a nice "eye". Even though this stone does not show a razor sharp eye, it looks good in person under a strong penlight. This is a really interesting and eye-catching stone, and a must have for any fan of rarities, oddball gems or attractive unusual stones of common species.
