Item Description

A very hard to find specimen of light golden colored scalenohedral Calcite from Bad Reichenhall, Bavaria, Germany according to the label (no additional locality information was given). I can't find any other specimens of Calcite from this district, and if you collect Calcite, this would make a great addition to a worldwide suite. This piece features a sharp, well-formed, lustrous, GEMMY, soft yellow-gold colored scalenohedron with minor attached host rock matrix on the back. The crystal is actually doubly-terminated and is mostly complete all the way around. It has some interrupted growth on the back where it grew on the matrix, but overall it's in fine shape. The piece also comes wit ha label from a Dr. Ziehr of Germany. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#8534). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
