Item Description

This is an unusual display specimen simply labeled as coming from "Guanajuato, Mexico". It features a predominant, tabular, oddly modified, cream colored crystal measuring 2.6 cm sitting among smaller Calcites of similar color and quality on matrix. The Calcites could possibly be pseudomorphs or "casts" after a preexisting species, as the shape of the crystals is very unusual for the species. The luster has an almost velvety / waxy appearance. A strange piece for any collector of Mexican minerals or Calcite specimens. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#5066). The piece comes with a label from Pasadena City College stating that it was from the Vance Collection. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
