Item Description

An odd Calcite specimen in terms of the habit. The label refers to the crystals as lamellar, but I would descirbe them as "radial" or "spherical". At first glance, I thought this was a specimen of Mica as the crystals have a semi-metallic exterior luster, and a silvery-grey hue. The largest "ball" on the specimen measures 1.5 cm across. I've seen "balls" of Calcite from Boron before, but this one is just different in terms of color and the strange luster. A perfect esoteric piece for any Calcite collector, or a collector of California minerals. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#1692). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
