Item Description

Mineral specimens of ANY species are RARE from this historic old Isle of Man silver-lead-zinc-copper mine started in the late 1700s and finally closed in 1929. There is only one specimen in the MINDAT locality Photo Gallery. This is an impressive mounded 360-degree hedgehog of frosted dogtooth calcite crystals. One side is dramatically, preferentially invested with galena crystals and microcrystalline galena. Interesting chemistry here! Complete all-around and pristine. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 1053 and acquired in the late 1950s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). An exceptional and RARE Isle of Man calcite with galena.
