Item Description

The wide variety of the Calcites from Ojuela is impressive, and this piece is a far cry from the specimen posted earlier in this auction, as they are polar opposites in terms of crystal habit. This attractvie and eye-catching display specimen is filled with wonderfully well-formed, very sharp, smooth / glassy, gemmy colorless modified rhombohedra measuring up to 3.1 cm on a bit of gossan matrix. Upon close inspection, the beveled modifications and beautiful corner faces of each crystal give them an elegance and distinction that is not often seen from this locality. Some of the Calcites are nearly water clear in areas, while others are more milky. There are even some prismatic white Hemimorphite crystals on the specimen that have formed in a "spray"-shaped group, but since they're small (and the same color as the Calcites), you might not see them at first glance. Great quality, morphology and aesthetics. The only damage is around the periphery where the piece was removed from the pocket wall. Valued at $1750. From the collection of Senator / Dr. Miguel Romero of Teuhuacan, Mexico (Collection #5664).
