Item Description

A strange and rarely seen specimen featuring a large flattend rhombic yellow-green Calcite with compacted attached "wings" of Palygorskite which resemble "mountain leather" (Amphibole) but is actually part of a different mineral group. Specimens from Metaline Falls are rare, especially in pieces of this size and caliber. The piece is complete all the way around and the front and back are complete crystallized. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#2686). The label states that it was acquired from "Van Scriver", but I don't know if this refers to Brad, Star or Curt. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
