Item Description

An extremely rare, possibly unique, pseudomorph specimen from the famous Leonard Mine at Butte. Betekhtinite is a rare lead, copper, iron sulfosalt and is very rare in itself at Butte. Clusters and single crystals of chalcopyrite pseudomorphing acicular betekhtinite crystals to a long 1.0 cm are scattered on the showy combination plate consisting of glassy quartz points, mirror-bright, brass-yellow pyrite crystals, chalcopyrite crystals and chalcopyrite coating pyrite crystals. This would be an excellent and classic Leonard Mine combination specimen, even without the pseudos. BUT, with the pseudos, this is an over-the-top Butte rarity. Ex Richard Haas and Robert Whitmore Collections.
