Item Description

Carpathite is an organic hydrocarbon - a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH), - formerly referred to as Coronene, Karpatite or Pendletonite. The chemical formula is C24H12. This piece is a from arguably the best known locality for Carpathite, the Picacho Mine (Los Picachos), which is a former Mercury producer. This piece features gorgeous, prismatic, bright yellow monoclinic crystals of Carpathite which are associated with beautifully complimenting red Cinnabar and a even a tiny bit of micro Native Gold! This is certainly rare material, and to find a piece associated with Gold is exceptionally rare in my experience. The Carpathite also shows a gorgeous blue fluorescence under both SW and LW UV light. This piece was collected by Rick Kennedy.
