Cassiterite

Item Description

Splendent, dark brown cassiterite crystals to 1.1 cm are attractively scattered on the quartz-rich greisen matrix on this showy and rich small cabinet from the well-known Elsmore area tin mines of New South Wales. Some of the cassiterites are doubly terminated and some are partially gemmy, with distinct areas of golden-brown fire. Most of the major crystals are pristine, with scattered bruised and broken crystals noted. This remains a rich and excellent example of the species from the locale. Ex Bob Trimingham Collection.
