Item Description

A wonderful big showy display specimen of the lesser-known but fine quality twinned Cassiterites from the Penouta Mines in northwestern Spain. This piece features a few good sized, sharp, well-formed, striated, jet-black twinned crystals measuring up to a whopping 3.8 cm, with a bit of Quartz sitting on typical shimmering silvery-golden colored bladed Muscovite and schist matrix. The Cassiterites are about as big as I have personally seen from the locality. The piece is trimmed in a manner by which it can sit on its own without the aid of a base or clay, creating a wonderful visual presentation. The Cassiterites are in good shape, but they are not without damage, as there are some rough edges here and there. This is certainly one of the biggest and best examples of these classic specimens that we've had to offer, and if you're a fan of Cassiterites or crystal morphology, this is a very worthwhile piece to add to your collection. Valued at $2,000 in our inventory. From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#65 ES), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel. We at The Arkenstone have the privilege of offering the remainder of this great worldwide collection over the coming months and years through our various platforms.
