Item Description

The Viloco Mine (sometimes called the Araca Mine) is one of the premier localities in the world for crystallized Cassiterite. Bolivian is well-known for its prolific tin deposits, but the Cassiterite (which is still considered "ore" by the locals) from this particular mine is not only fine quality, but it's truly the only GEM grade Cassiterite from any Bolivian mine. This small cabinet specimen features very sharp, highly lustrous cyclic twins measuring up to 1.5 cm across which show a mixture of gemmy golden tones which show up nicely when backlit against the stark black hues. The matrix is typical Quartz and host rock. There are some dings on the piece, so it's not 100% pristine, but all of the Cassiterites are notably smooth and glassy. This is still fine quality Cassiterite in terms of crystallization, so if you've ever wanted one of these classic specimens for a good value, don't pass this one up.
