Item Description

The Pingwu Mine has produced some of the most distinctive and signature specimens from China. Some of the finest crystallized specimens of Cassiterite in the world have come from this mine. This particular piece features a beautiful, sharp, highly lustrous, group of jet black, cyclic twinned Cassiterite crystals - with individual crystals meausring up to 2.2 cm - sitting aesthetically on bladed silvery Muscovite. The quality is VERY good and it's in great condition all the way around. I can only find a couple tiny nicks on the Cassiterite, and you have to look closely to find them. A fine specimen of this contemporary classic material. Valued at $1,250. From the worldwide collection of David Burgess (1951-2016). David was a prolific species collector from Newington, Connecticut, and the namesake for the extremely rare cobalt arsenate species Burgessite, which he discovered.
