Item Description

Cassiterite specimens are very uncommon from the Catron County portion of this less well-known tin district. This is a RARE and rich combination from an unknown locality. Sculptural and hefty intergrown botryoids of cassiterite (variety wood tin) are nearly totally covered with black to red hematite plates and botryoids. Considering the form and rarity of this combination, the scattered contacting has very little impact to the high quality of the piece. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 9690 and acquired from Carousel Minerals at Tucson in 1991. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). A must for the New Mexico or species collector.
