Item Description

Cavansite is one of these minerals that is really only associated with a single locality, though it's found in other places in the world. It beloved by collectors and dealers due to the fact that it has one of the most distinctive colors in the mineral world. There might be a fair number of them on the market now, but most are not nearly as fine as this piece, and you won't see them forever. Rumors keep swirling as to whether Wagholi is completely flooded and unminable, or if the quarry is being filled in to make room for the ever growing housing market in Pune, but eventually one day there will be no more Cavansite on the market. This piece hosts a few gorgeous radial "sprays" of glowing intense blue Cavansite sitting atop gemmy, bladed, white Stilbite and beige colored Heulandite sitting on basalt matrix. The largest Cavansite aggregate measures 1.1 cm across. No real damage that I can see, and this is older material, dating back to the mid 1990s. You don't see this particular style anymore on the market. The piece sits beautifully on its own without the aid of a base or clay. Priced at $1,450 in the inventory. From the collection of Angela Kosnar, whose favorite mineral species is Cavansite.
