Item Description

This is certainly one of, if not the best examples of Celestine that we've had to offer from this quarry. Now I will say that specimens are quite difficult to find, and we haven't had many of them over the years, which just increases the value and desirability of this specimen in my mind. Although pieces from the Hoosier Quarry are seldom seen, they are still lauded for their excellent crystal form and quality. This piece is a rarely seen DOUBLY-TERMINATED example with notably sharp and well-formed glassy faces, showing a few colors with pastel golden, blue and smoky hues internally. The front/display side of the piece is in great shape, and it's largely complete on the back, save some areas where it was detached from the pocket wall. It's also a very good sized crystal for the locality, measuring 3 inches, which is larger than most we've seen from the Hoosier Quarry. If you collect Midwest minerals, or have a fondness for Celestine, don't miss out on this excellent example from this limestone quarry in southern Indiana. Valued $1,750.
From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds (#RR0146). Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011. The piece also comes with a label from Al Ordway (Ordway's Minerals)
