Item Description

This is the finest example of Celestine from the Boraxo Mine (Thompson Mine) in Death Valley, California that we've ever had to offer. The piece features amazingly well-formed, notably sharp, lustrous, textbook orthorhombic crystals of a soft blue-grey hue measuring up to 1.6 cm long. At the bottom of the specimen is an even larger (though completely cleaved) Celestine crystal which makes for a natural display base, so the piece sits beautifully on its own. Very minor damage can be seen, but it's more than forgivable as this is a stellar example of this elusive material. If you collect minerals from around Death Valley, this is a must-add piece for your collection, as you may not see another of this quality or displayability on the market again. It's hard enough to find Celestine specimens from this mine, but a piece of this caliber is really a big deal. Priced in our inventory at $1,400. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds (#RR0141). Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
