Item Description

Cerussite specimens from the famous old mines at Phoenixville are very seldom on the market in this quality. A rich bed of reticulated cerrusite blades covers the hefty galena-rich matrix. They have adamantine luster and sparkle nicely. Specimens of this quality probably date to the mid-1800s, as primary ore production was from 1847-54! This old-timer has a fine provenance, as piece was in the Peter Zodac Collection, founder and publisher of Rocks & Minerals in 1926. Ex Robert Whitmore Collection. I have not seen such pieces for sale but infrequently and it is extremely hard to fix a price to such old classics. However, it seems $500-750 should be in the fair range of valuations, at a minimum.
