Chalcedony has pseudomorphed two generations of calcite on this otherworldly and RARE large specimen from this popular California hiking spot. Two sides of the striking rabbit ears spray of large stepped-growth calcite scalenohedrons artistically host striking large and small stacked complex calcite rhombs. The stack of small rhombs on one side is crowned with a 4.7 cm pseudo, with the other side of impressive larger stacked pseudos is capped by a 5.0 rhomb. The contacted side certainly has negligibe impact to the overall very high quality and significance of this California piece. Ex Williams, J.G. Dixon and Tom Wolfe Collections and probably dates to the 1950s or 60s or even earlier. This is a fantastically sculptural and rare large 270-degree pseudo from Afton Canyon.
