Item Description

A wonderful old time piece of the well-known and hard to find specimens of Chalcedony pseudomorphing after Fluorite from the former Transylvania / Hungary (modern Romania). The small cabinet sized specimen features sharp cubes of what was formerly Fluorite but have now been completely replaced by lovely lavender-blue colored Chalcedony. The largest crystal measures 8 mm on edge and the central crystals are undamaged. I think it's safe to say that this piece is at least 100 years old. Very few of these pieces are ever offered on the market today. A great old classic, and a cool pseudomorph to boot! Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#4320). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). A hard to find display piece of this uncommon material from Romania.
