Item Description

Chalcocite is a well-known copper sulfide species, and certainly the Chalcocites from the Flambeau Mine are among the most recognizable and highly sought after examples of the species extant. These pieces have a truly characteristic form and eye-catching iridescence that make them amazingly distinctive and valuable. These have gone down in recent years as classics, now nearly completely absent from the market. This lovely small cabinet sized specimen is a fine quality group of sharp, well-formed, stacked / layered, pseudo-hexagonal (monoclinic) blades of Chalcocite with a patina or "sheen" on the surface showing flashes of metallic bronze hues. The display side of the specimen is virtually undamaged, and displays wonderfully as you can see from the photos. Great quality overall. The largest crystal measures about 1.5 cm. Valued $1,500.
