Item Description

One of the more interesting specimens from Chino are the Pyrite crystals coated with black Chalcocite (var. Ductownite). You can find them as individual crystals and sometimes as clusters, but an assemblage like this, in matrix, is exceptional and superb. There are a half dozen significant Pyrites, all sharp and euhedral, with the largest being 2.3 cm across. They are completely coated with the Chalcocite, and they all are set in a Pyrophyllite matrix. The contrast between the pearly luster of the Talc-related matrix and the black-coated Pyrites is really quite eye-catching. Overall, this is an aesthetic and choice combination with both interest and its own beauty. Collected in 1976, this was originally priced at $950 nearly 20 years ago.
