Item Description

A fine quality, old time, classic historic specimen of the famous Cornish Chalcocites from Redruth. This material was so well-known years ago it was actually called Redruthite. This piece features fine quality crystals - not crystalline masses - of sharp, metallic, silvery Chalcocite. The crystals are pseudo-hexagonal in appearance and really look good under magnification. No real damage that I can see with the naked eye, and upon close inpsection, the crystals on this piece are very well-formed and superb representations for the species and Cornwall in general. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#1441). The label accompanying the piece states that it was from the collection of Falerkhorst(?) from 1917 and Ritter. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). A beautiful and attractive old-timer from this famous locale.
